Driller’s Assistant
Traineeship
What Driller’s Assistants do
- Assist in moving drilling rigs and equipment from one site to another, set up the new site and connect power cables or hoses for water and air supply and drilling for core samples
- Dig and remove mud from pits and drains
- Mix and test chemicals and grout
- Assist in slotting, welding, inserting casing screens, well development and pumping tests
- Operate equipment including pumps for air, water and mud and correct problems in drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or by harmful natural conditions
- Carry out minor maintenance and repairs on equipment, including lubrication and cleaning
- Clean and maintain camp sites

- Ability to work in difficult conditions and in remote areas
- Good organisation skills
- Ability to accurately record details
- No police record
- Be 18 years old or older
- Do not use drugs or be intoxicated
- Pass a medical examination

- Employment for a minimum of one year
- Employment areas include: drilling contractors, mining companies, oil companies, construction sites, dam sites, mines, offshore and onshore oil & gas exploration and production facilities.
