What Clothing Production Workers do

  • Set up and operate sewing machines, hand and power tools and steam presses
  • Arranges patterns for garments on a piece of material or marker paper, making note of the direction of the weave
  • Maintain machinery and equipment
  • Select appropriate fabrics and mix fibres for garments
  • Cut out garment pieces by following edges, seams or markings of the cloth
  • Assemble garment pieces by using various sewing techniques including hemming, pleating, attaching zippers, pockets and buttons
