What Butchers do

  • Cut, trim and shape different types of meat to size
  • Sort out carcasses into primary and secondary cuts
  • Pack and store products for display and sale
  • Use International Ausmeat Language to order supplies from wholesalers
  • Weigh and check stock on order
  • Operate meat processing machinery such as mincers, mixers or sausage-forming machines
  • Prepare marinated meats and ready-to-cook dishes
  • Advise customers about options for cuts of meat, cooking methods, storage requirements and nutritional aspects of meat and then complete sale by collecting payment
  • Use correct techniques for cleaning and preparing food areas, adhering to Health and Safety regulations.
