What Automotive Electricians do
- Identify and repair electrical faults on automotive systems such as fuel injection, anti-lock braking, automatic transmission, air bags and air conditioning
- Install electrical equipment into automotive vehicles such as alternators and starter motors
- Provide advice, sell and install electrical parts and accessories such as radios, heating, air conditioners and anti-theft systems
- Understand and utilise computer-controlled engine management and other systems
- Test vehicles using instruments and circuit diagrams to identify electrical issues
- Fine-tune engine control systems to ensure peak performance from vehicles
- Use specialised electrical tools and machines when fixing automotive parts
