Apprenticeship

What Automotive Electricians do

  • Identify and repair electrical faults on automotive systems such as fuel injection, anti-lock braking, automatic transmission, air bags and air conditioning
  • Install electrical equipment into automotive vehicles such as alternators and starter motors
  • Provide advice, sell and install electrical parts and accessories such as radios, heating, air conditioners and anti-theft systems
  • Understand and utilise computer-controlled engine management and other systems
  • Test vehicles using instruments and circuit diagrams to identify electrical issues
  • Fine-tune engine control systems to ensure peak performance from vehicles
  • Use specialised electrical tools and machines when fixing automotive parts
