Apprenticeship

What Vehicle Trimmers do

  • Discuss with customers specific requirements and take measurements
  • Remove old coverings or fittings from vehicles
  • Select, measure, cut and sew sections of chosen material using shears or electrical cutting tools and industrial sewing machines
  • Fit new trim in vehicles
  • Repair, restore and manufacture seat covers
  • Check vehicle interior mechanisms, such as door locks and window winders and re-fit, align or replace where necessary
  • Waterproof and dustproof vehicles
  • Follow instructions, specifications and drawing

The Future

  • Employment for a minimum of four years
  • Employment with specialist trimming firms, crash repair firms, car manufacturers and distributors, and other firms that repair or construct automotive vehicles, aircraft or marine craft, or be self-employed work on a sub-contract basis
