What Vehicle Painters do
- Eliminate rough spots on vehicle panels and sand and smooth surfaces by hand or with appropriate sanders
- Match paint to the existing paint shade, either by selecting a pre-mixed paint or mixing your own
- Place protective papers on unaffected panels of the vehicle
- Apply primer and finishing coats using spray guns
- Touch-up paintwork and apply polish to vehicles
- Remove protective papers and polish the vehicle on completion
- Paint artwork on vehicles
- Use rust-proofing chemicals and specific techniques on vehicles.

- No breathing-related/ respiratory problems or conditions
- No allergies
- Good general physical fitness
- School Certificate
The Future
- Employment for a minimum of four years
- Employment with crash repair firms and motor vehicle manufacturers or self-employed, usually in partnership with panel beaters
- Experienced vehicle painters may become representatives for paint manufacturers or assessors with insurance companies
