What Upholsterers do

  • Assist clients with choice of colour, fabric, style and cost
  • Stretch lengths of webbing tape across furniture frame and staple to underside
  • Stretch and staple interlacing layers of webbing from side to side
  • Prevent sideways movement by lacing tops of springs together then staple hessian to the frame
  • Shape and cut foam padding, make patterns for furniture coverings, measure and cut fabric, join sections and tack fabric on to the furniture frame
  • Use decorative braid, trim, buttons or fancy nails to cover staples and attach calico to the cover the underside of the furniture
  • Restore and repair upholstered furniture by replacing cover, webbing, padding and springs.

  • Employment areas include: commercial, household, marine and caravan furniture, specialists in antiques, customising, renovating, repairing and recovery of furniture
