Transport Clerk
Traineeship
What Transport Clerks do
- Check the goods received and goods to be dispatched
- Ensure articles are in good condition and correspond to invoices, manifests or other records
- Organise for the internal distribution of goods
- Attach all documentation before the goods are sent
- Follow clearance procedures (e.g. payment of any customs entry fees) and arrange prompt delivery
- Spend time in warehouses packing and unpacking goods
- Transport goods between wharves, container terminals, airports and government departments
- Weigh items
- Arrange replacement of damaged goods and contact senders to fix shortages
- Maintain records and undertake clerical work such as filing, accounting, preparing correspondence, and inputting and retrieving information from computers.
