What Railway Track Workers do

  • Lays new railway tracks by placing sleepers across roadbeds, position and fasten rails on sleepers
  • Repairs and maintains tracks, switches and railway property including railway lines, transfer yards, mines and quarries
  • Construct rails by cutting to length and grind rough rail ends, drill bolt holes, bolt and weld rail sections
  • Ensure firm foundation for sleepers by spreading and packing ballast
  • Control vegetation on railway reserves
