What Purchasing Officers do

  • Purchase, plan for and schedule delivery of goods and services
  • Source suppliers by attending sales demonstrations, meeting with sales representatives and obtaining product catalogues and trade journals
  • Negotiate price, check quality and ensure delivery capabilities of suppliers
  • Researching potential new sources or alternative materials and making recommendations
  • Ensure all purchases are received on time and to correct location
  • Negotiate contractual conditions
  • Use computers to maintain records of purchases and suppliers
