What Purchasing Officers do
- Purchase, plan for and schedule delivery of goods and services
- Source suppliers by attending sales demonstrations, meeting with sales representatives and obtaining product catalogues and trade journals
- Negotiate price, check quality and ensure delivery capabilities of suppliers
- Researching potential new sources or alternative materials and making recommendations
- Ensure all purchases are received on time and to correct location
- Negotiate contractual conditions
- Use computers to maintain records of purchases and suppliers
