Apprenticeship

What Panel Beaters do

  • Remove damaged vehicle panels and components
  • Hammer panels with specialised panel beating tools to remove dent
  • Use mechanical and hydraulic equipment to straighten damaged vehicles
  • Cut, fit and weld replacement parts
  • Fill dents with plastic fillers and file, grind and sand repaired surfaces using power and hand tools
  • Refit the repaired panel or replacement onto the vehicle and reassemble connecting components such as door locks and trims
  • Realign vehicle body frames using specialised alignment machines
  • Dismantle damaged auto-electric components and repair or replace where appropriate
  • Assist body builders to build custom-designed or restore vintage vehicles
  • Assist spray painter with finishing touches
