Apprenticeship

What Moulders and Casters do

  • Make sand moulds for casting metal objects and for structural frames of equipment used in mining and forestry
  • Interpret drawings and specifications for job materials and equipment requirements
  • Fabricate parts or sub-assemblies by cutting, rolling, shaping, bending, moulding, spinning, heating or hammering metal products
  • Heat treat metal parts and components
  • Operate hand and machine tools, welding equipment and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines
  • Assemble and joining parts and structures by welding, bolting or riveting
  • Finish products by cleaning, polishing, filing or bathing them in acid solutions, or by applying protective or decorative coatings.
