Apprenticeship
What Motor Mechanics do
- Discuss problems with vehicle operators, listen to and test engines with specialist equipment such as engines, transmissions, steering gear
- Dismantle vehicles and check components; repair or replace faulty components, reassemble, clean and test e.g. engines, transmissions and steering gear
- Tune engines using specialised equipment and make adjustments where appropriate
- Perform minor body repairs
- Use a variety of welding and other specialised equipment
- Examine and repair electrical systems such as lighting, ignition and electronic fuel injection
- Inspect vehicles, issue roadworthiness certificates, list work required if not roadworthy
