Traineeship

What Marine Engine Drivers do

  • Operate and maintain the main ship engines and associated machinery, electrical, refrigeration, airconditioning and cargo-handling equipment
  • Watch automatic data recording equipment, analyse data and make adjustments as required. In vessels without automated equipment, manually record readings and make similar analysis and adjustments
  • Carry out regular maintenance of the main engine and repair defective machines or equipment
  • Arrange engine room watches at sea and in port
  • Make sure that the operations of the vessel are non polluting
  • Maintain engine room stores and record usage and replacement of parts and equipment

  • Sense of responsibility
  • Ability to work effectively with others and independently
  • Ability to work for long periods of time at sea
  • School Certificate

The Future

  • Employment for minimum of one year
  • Employment areas include: shipping companies including general cargo, container, bulk carrier and tanker companies, drilling platforms and government authorities
