What Government Clerical Officers do
- Maintain records, file documents, answer telephones, distribute ingoing and outgoing mail and attend to counter and written enquiries
- Distribute letters of summons and other correspondence to individuals and legal firms
- Manage local community activities in areas such as the arts, welfare, aged care and children’s services
- Operate office equipment such as photocopiers and computers for inputting and retrieving information
- Arrange travel arrangements, conferences and social functions
- Receipt payments, bank money and balance ledgers
- Complete general administrative work by distributing rate notices and write correspondence
- Assist in the research, legal, costing and accounting activities of the council
- Prepare agendas and take minutes at meetings
- Provide on-the-job training for new employees and supervise other staff
