What Government Clerical Officers do

  • Maintain records, file documents, answer telephones, distribute ingoing and outgoing mail and attend to counter and written enquiries
  • Distribute letters of summons and other correspondence to individuals and legal firms
  • Manage local community activities in areas such as the arts, welfare, aged care and children’s services
  • Operate office equipment such as photocopiers and computers for inputting and retrieving information
  • Arrange travel arrangements, conferences and social functions
  • Receipt payments, bank money and balance ledgers
  • Complete general administrative work by distributing rate notices and write correspondence
  • Assist in the research, legal, costing and accounting activities of the council
  • Prepare agendas and take minutes at meetings
  • Provide on-the-job training for new employees and supervise other staff
