Apprenticeship

What Furniture Polishers do

  • Prepare surfaces for polishing by remove trimmings such as knobs or hinges
  • Use a variety of methods to remove old finishes such as stripping, scraping, sanding or applying solvents
  • Mix and match colours of paint and stain
  • Apply stains and paint the surface of the furniture
  • Polish, wax or lacquer furniture
  • Make minor repairs and restoration to damaged and antique furniture
  • Maintain and clean equipment regularly

  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Patience and attention to detail
  • No allergies or respiratory problems
  • School Certificate

The Future

  • Employment for a minimum of four years
