Stevedore
What people in this role do:
- Prepare for loading by cleaning holds and containers and prepare stevedoring (ship-loading) gear
- Secure cargo to prevent it moving during voyages
- Place cargo on pallets, trays, flats and slings to enable the movement on and off the ships
- Using equipment move loads on or off the ship and direct the operation by using communication systems
- Keep records of all cargo unloaded, storage details if required and information for dispatching goods
- On ships arrival or departure assist moor or unmoor ships
- Carry out minor maintenance on all equipment used such as forklifts, trucks, front end loaders and fixed or mobile cranes
- Take leadership roles
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- Interest in practical and manual work
- Physical fitness
- Sound communication, organisational and team skills
- The ability to give and take instructions and work well in a team
- School Certificate

- Employment for a minimum of one year
