Forestry Worker

What people in this role do:

• Prepare land for planting of native trees or plantations and control weeds and pests
• Cultivate cuttings and seedlings at a forest nursery
• Prune, thin and fell trees safely by using hand or mechanical equipment such as chainsaws, handsaws, axes and wedges
• Mark trees for harvesting and harvest using a wide range of mechanical harvesting equipment
• Prepare logs for transportation by removing branches, de-barking, cutting and grading
• Construct and maintain facilities including access roads, buildings, visitors’ amenities, fire breaks, control burning and fire prevention activities
• Maintain equipment and vehicles
• Implement environmental practices to minimise impact on roads, water courses and wildlife

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

• Sound literacy and numeracy skills
• Awareness of safety practices
• Good physical fitness
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Interest in working outdoors
• An interest in forest protection and regeneration
• School Certificate
