Stablehand

What people in this role do:

  • Attend to the care of horses
  • Brush and, groom and feed horses
  • Clean and maintain stables and training equipment
  • Exercise horses during track work or equestrian activities
  • Check horses for common injuries, ailments, infections and lameness
  • Give required first aid, medication or other treatment to horses
  • Accompany horses to registered race meetings, gymkhanas and equestrian events

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Good health and fitness
  • Enjoyment physical work
  • An interest in horses and animal care
  • No allergies to grass, hay or animals

The Future

  • Employment for a minimum of one year
  • Employment areas include racing or riding stables, breeding or agistment (feeding) centres or farms
