Sports Coach

What people in this role do:

  • Observe individuals’ performances and determine instruction level required
  • Teach techniques during practice sessions to players to acquire additional skills or improve existing skills
  • Supervise the physical development of athletes and plan training programs
  • Liaise with sports science support staff and club officials
  • Arrange entries into competitions and plan and direct game strategy
  • Analyse and observe the progress of games or athletes and give instructions
  • Complete and evaluate after-competition analysis of performance and strategies
  • Attend to administrative tasks such as booking venues, organising tours and budgeting
  • Recruit players and other coaching staff.

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Comprehensive understanding of your sport
  • Knowledge of the developmental needs of the athletes
  • Enthusiasm, discipline and dedication
  • Interest in travel and are prepared to work long hours, evenings and weekends
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to interact well with others
  • School Certificate
