Shearer

What people in this role do:

  • Remove sheep from catching pens and shear fleece from sheep in one piece
  • Select appropriate shearing combs to suit the type of sheep and wool
  • Treat any skin cuts from shearing on sheep
  • Return shorn sheep to let-out pens for checking and counting
  • Select hand shears or special combs and shear stud animals
  • Clean, sharpen and maintain combs and cutters

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work quickly and consistently with your hands
  • Good coordination and are able to handle sheep with confidence
  • Ability to live in remote areas
  • Physical fitness
  • School Certificate
