Agricultural Worker
What people in this role do:
- Cultivate soil and sow crops by slashing and rotary hoeing
- Use chemical sprays to control weeds
- Control weeds and soil temperatures by planting crops between rows of trees and bushes
- Construct trellises to support vines and fruit
- Operate machinery and equipment including tractors, harvesters, forklifts and hand tools
- Feed livestock and poultry, clear away animal waste and hose out operational areas
- Prepare milking machinery, assist with all milking operations, clean and sterilise milking machines
- Perform tasks involved in the breeding and raising of livestock such as shearing, dipping, branding, crutching, gelding, marking and assisting with artificial insemination
- Muster sheep or cattle by horse or motorbike
- Maintain and repair all structures, machinery and equipment
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- Mechanical and practical aptitude
- Good general physical fitness
- Interest in handling animals
- Ability to work for long periods of time
- Enjoyment for working outdoors, in all kinds of weather conditions
- Ability to work in rural and sometimes isolated areas
- School Certificate
