Sign Writer

What people in this role do:

• Talk to clients to find out their specific requirements
• Prepare and provide colour sketches or samples
• Discuss materials for the signs such as timber, plastic, metal or glass and decide upon the most suitable option
• Prepare surfaces and materials to be used, such as, filling holes, sanding and mixing the paint, enamel or varnish required
• Use stencils or templates to sketch images
• Create and erect signs based on specifications
• Create two-dimensional or three-dimensional lettering and graphics, using computerised machinery

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

• An interest and ability in art and design
• Ability to work outdoors and at heights
• An artistic and creative nature
• Normal eyesight
• Good colour recognition skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good literacy skills
• School Certificate
