Prining Machinist

What people in this role do:

• Organise and operate letterpress, lithographic, flexographic and gravure printing presses
• Plan and arrange image materials
• Adjust printing plates or cylinders on presses to fit item
• Combine inks and adjust the colour flow to the image
• Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on machinery and equipment
• Monitor and adjust the machine functions, where necessary
• Mix ink and solvents to regulate paper and ink supply during print runs

• Good hand-eye coordination
• Attention to detail
• Mechanical aptitude
• Higher School Certificate

The Future

• Employment for a minimum of four years
• Employment areas include: publishing houses, newspaper production, printing firms, or private and government in-house print shops
