Laboratory Assistant

What people in this role do:

  • Maintain, clean and set up equipment for experiments
  • Collect, classify and preserve specimens
  • Feed, water and observe plants and animals in laboratory conditions
  • Perform scientific tests on specimens and samples
  • Complete experimental procedures, such as taking blood, testing seeds and plants
  • Observe and test animals and plants for diseases
  • Carry out mathematical calculations and prepare graphs and reports
  • Operate computers and computer-interfaced equipment
  • Perform quality assurance checks on production line samples and materials

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Enjoyment of scientific activities
  • Ability to produce accurate and detailed work
  • Good eyesight and normal colour vision
  • Ability to work with others
  • School Certificate
