Nutrition and Dietetic Assistant

What people in this role do:

  • Discuss with health care team members the dietary needs of patients and clients
  • Negotiate with patients food preferences
  • Assist in the planning of menus for clients and patients
  • Ensure food is hygienically and correctly prepared and presented well
  • Assist Dieticians to develop a nutrition care plan
  • Maintain patient diet records
  • Assist in the training of staff involved in the preparation and serving of meals for patients with dietary needs
  • Use computers for data system entry and retrieval.

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Good oral communication skills
  • Interested in working with people
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work with computers
  • School Certificate
