Hospital Assistant

What people in this role do:

  • Assist in the care of patients including lifting and turning bedridden patients
  • Help patients to eat, shower, bathe, shave and dress while supervised by a registered nurse
  • Assist patients to move around and communicate with other hospital staff
  • Ensure that soiled items are removed and clean clothing and linen is supplied to the patient
  • Observe and report to supervisor any changes in the patients condition or any complaints
  • Assist qualified staff with rehabilitation exercises and basic treatment and medications
  • Perform basic first aid and procedures including applying and changing dressings
  • Accompany patients ready for discharge to the appropriate area.

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Patience and nurturing nature
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy objects
  • Commitment to the rights of elderly and disabled people to live with dignity
  • School Certificate
