Carpenter
What people in this role do:
- Construct formwork into which concrete is poured
- Prepare an outline of the building on the construction site to allow for excavations
- Build floors, wall timber or metal frameworks and roofs and lay timber floors
- Prepare and interpret plans and specifications to establish the required materials, manpower, dimensions and installation processes
- Install metal and timber windows and doors
- Select materials and timber required and place orders
- Use hand and power tools to assemble, cut and shape elements
- Add finishing touches by installing door handles, locks and insulating material
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- Enjoyment of practical and manual work
- Ability to work well with your hands
- Good balance
- Ability to work at heights and outdoors
- Good general physical fitness
- Sound vision
- Ability to work as part of a team
- School Certificate
