Bricklayer

What people in this role do:

• Interpret and follow plans and specifications given to them
• Lay and seal foundations with damp-resistant materials
• Spread and remove excess mortar (binding agent)
• Check alignment of bricks (vertical and horizontal)
• Lay bricks, blocks and pavers in lines or decorative patterns and designs
• Use specialised tools and brick-cutting machines to cut and shape bricks
• Construct arches and ornamental brickwork
• Repair and restore brick structures

• Enjoyment of practical and manual work
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Technical mind to read off plans
• Ability to work at heights and outdoors
• Good general physical fitness
• Healthy body and mind
