Furniture Maker

What people in this role do:

• Select timber and manufactured board and prepare for use
• Design, measure, mark, cut and shape pieces using power tools and woodworking equipment
• Trim, sand and glue joints and assemble pieces together to form sections of furniture
• Prepare surfaces, mix and apply stains or paint
• Assemble prepared sections to form furniture
• Attach hinges, locks, catches, drawers and shelves
• Repair damaged furniture and cabinets as requested by customers

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

• Enjoyment of practical and manual work
• Ability to work neatly and accurately
• Interest in furniture making
• Good physical fitness and colour vision
• Good eye-hand coordination
