Seafood Processor

What people in this role do:

• Scale, clean, fillet, and shell seafood
• Sort and grade seafood on conveyors
• Check pre cooked seafood to eliminate waste
• Process fish by removing meat from shellfish and separating the tail from the body of the rock lobster
• Prepare seafood for freezing and packing
• Process seafood by operating machines which slice, peel, skin or crumb seafood
• Pack processed seafood and freeze in packs
• Place the frozen seafood in cartons
• Clean and sanitise equipment and work areas.

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

• Practical skills and enjoy manual work
• Good hand-eye coordination
• The ability to work quickly
• Team skills
• An awareness of occupational, health and safety issues
• Physical fitness and are free from skin disease or chest complaints
• School Certificate

The Future

• Employment for a minimum of one year
• Employment areas include: seafood wholesalers and retailers, processing companies, and on board fishing ships with processing facilities
