Watchmaker
What people in this role do:
- Open watch cases and remove watch and clock mechanisms and examine them for signs of wear
- Reconstruct, create, design, timepieces
- Repair or replace faulty parts such as cracked crystals, broken hands and bent teeth or wheels
- Test, clean, and lubricate each part
- Maintain minute electronic circuits in watches and clocks, carry out tests and accurately adjust their timekeeping
- Reassemble, fit and adjust parts to ensure they work correctly
- Replace watch and clock faces, sometimes sealing them so they are waterproof, set and check timing
- Estimate cost of repairs for customers
- Make available new watches and clocks for sale
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- Enjoyment of technical work

- Good hand-eye coordination
- Good organisational skills
- School Certificate

- Employment for a minimum of four years
- Employment with retail jewellery stores, specialist service centres, self-employed or form a business in partnership with a qualified jeweller
