Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic
What people in this role do:
- Interpret plans and specifications for installation
- Drill holes, install mounting brackets and cut, shape and thread piping through wall and floors
- Install compressors, motors, condensers, evaporators, air filters, switches, gauges, copper lines for steam, gas, refrigerant, compressed air, fuel, oil and chilled water
- Work with electricians, pipe fitters and carpenters to install ducting for air conditioning and piping to refrigeration systems
- Check installation, fill systems with gas or fluid and test for leaks, remove fluid using vacuum pumps and refill with refrigerant
- Test units and make adjustments accordingly
- Service industrial and household refrigerators and air conditioning units by repairing or replacing faulty parts.
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- Aptitude for technical and mechanical work
- Patience, good organisational, communication and revision skills
- Good colour vision
- Ability to work as part of a team
- School Certificate

- Employment for a minimum of four years
