Electrotechnology Electrician

What people in this role do:

  • Read and interpret electrical, architectural and mechanical diagrams and drawings to determine job specifications and requirements
  • Plan and measure the layout of wiring systems
  • Test, locate and repair electrical failures
  • Install and fix electrical and electronic control systems, cables, outlets and equipment
  • Put together electrical and electronic appliances
  • Connect electrical equipment to power supplies

Note: Electrician is a general term that covers all specialisations in electrotechnology

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Interest in practical work
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Good eyesight and colour vision
  • Good health and personal physical fitness
  • Neat and clean appearance
  • Ability to work both in small groups and independently
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • HSC
  • Good maths and English

The Future

  • Employment for a minimum of four years
  • Employment areas include: manufacturing, mining, construction, energy & water supply, storage & transport industries, domestic & commercial electronics service, retail organisations or self employment.
