Library Assistant

What people in this role do:

  • Sort books and materials according to classification or catalogue numbers and return to storage areas
  • Issue items from library to borrowers and record borrowers information and due dates
  • Compile lists of overdue items and issue overdue notices to borrowers
  • Inspect items and make minor repairs where required
  • Issue Library cards to borrowers
  • Assist with information and telephone enquiries
  • Assist with outreach services such as the provision of a housebound service
  • Complete general administration duties such as operate photocopier, sort mail, unpack new materials, input data to local databases, type catalogue cards and labels, and file appropriately
  • Assist in library duties including arranging publicity displays and multimedia kits, accessing print and non-print materials, perform inter-library loan functions

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

  • Interest in computers
  • A practical, logical approach to work
  • Good organisational and customer service skills
  • Good oral and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • School Certificate
