Cabinet Maker

What people in this role do:

• Select timber and manufactured board to be used
• Prepare surfaces of the material by marking out, cutting and shaping
• Use hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery
• Fit pieces of material together to form components of furniture, and then assemble components to form completed piece of furniture
• Fit hinges, locks, catches, drawers and shelves
• Repair and restore pieces of furniture and cabinets
• Examine designs and plans and follow specifications for construction
• Make samples of furniture for production

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

• Enjoyment of practical and manual work
• Ability to understand and follow instructions accurately
• Attention to detail
• Mathematical skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good hand-eye coordination
• No allergies to dust
• School Certificate
