Paralegal Clerk
What people in this role do:
- Attend settlements for the purchase and sale of land after having checked land titles, boundaries and ownership of properties
- Assist solicitors to finalise contracts by researching information and examining final drafts
- Complete legal forms and lodge them with government offices, interview clients and draft clauses for contracts
- Conduct searches on details such as companies, business names, bankruptcy and other searches
- Help maintain accurate bookkeeping records
- Prepare statements of evidence by witnesses and briefing papers for use by barristers (this happens when a solicitor’s client has to go to court)
- Provide information on legal processes to clients
- Assist barristers and senior counsel with case management, prosecuting or defence lawyers in court and arrange for the briefing and attendance of witnesses
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- An interest in the law
- Good literacy skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to think logically and clearly
- Higher School Certificate
