Motor Mechanical - Light Vehicle
What people in this role do:
- Discuss problems with vehicle operators, listen to and test engines with specialist equipment such as engines, transmissions, steering gear
- Dismantle vehicles and check components; repair or replace faulty components, reassemble, clean and test e.g. engines, transmissions and steering gear Tune engines using specialised equipment and make adjustments where appropriate
- Perform minor body repairs
- Use a variety of welding and other specialised equipment
- Examine and repair electrical systems such as lighting, ignition and electronic fuel injection
- Inspect vehicles, issue roadworthiness certificates, list work required if not roadworthy
Your chances of success will be better if you have:
- Enjoyment of practical work
- Ability to work with hand tools
- Technical aptitude
- Good problem-solving and negotiating skills
- Good personal physical fitness
- Normal sight and hearing
- Driver’s licence
- School Certificate
