Automotive Air Conditioning Fitter

What people in this role do:

• Install the compressor and its drive from the engine
• Install the evaporator unit either under the dashboard, in the boot or on the roof
• Install, connect and test electrical wiring to the units, power source and controls
• Fill the unit with refrigerant and test it for leaks and problems
• Examine existing units by testing, fault finding and dismantling
• Repair or replace faulty parts, re-assemble and test

Your chances of success will be better if you have:

• Interest in practical and manual work
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Mechanical mind
• Good problem solving skills
• School Certificate
   

The Future

•  Employment for a minimum of one year
• Employment areas include: specialised workshops, motor vehicle dealers, authorities concerned with defence, energy supply, the minerals industry, public works and transport, and private companies with large fleets of vehicles
