This leadership and career development program not only benefits the participants, host employers and GTOs but is also a valuable tool for group training state and national associations as they seek ambassadors and role models able to effectively promote the value of group training. By deliberately targeting group training’s best and brightest apprentice and trainee leaders the future ripple effect for group training will be maximised.

2012 Program
Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders (TSTL) runs over 5 days at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Canberra, including a full day visit to Parliament House to meet with key politicians, and is usually launched by the Governor-General at Government House.

Employee engagement expert, Ian Hutchinson, leads participants through a career development process identifying how their interests, values, skills and personality traits combine with their leadership skills to create an informed vision for their futures and realistic action plans to achieve their goals.

Costs
GTA covers the cost of the program for participants including airfares, accommodation, meals and program activities. This is quite considerable at over $3000 per participant. Program sponsorship is sought from government and other stakeholders where possible. Leave arrangements and travel incidentals for the participants are covered by either individual GTOs or host employers.

Nomination Process
The final selection process is undertaken by GTA and is based on the quality of the nominee submissions. This means that there is no guaranteed number of places for each state as this will vary from year to year according to the quality of nominations submitted.

New South Wales can submit 5 nominees and 1 Indigenous nominee. GTA NSW will forward the nomination information for each short listed nominee and reserve to GTA along with the completed nomination summary. GTA will then conduct a final selection process to determine the composition of the 2012 group. GTA is seeking to increase the number of Indigenous apprentices and trainees nominated to participate in the program.

Acceptance and Announcement of Nominations
GTA national office will make the final selection and will advise State Associations and then GTOs of the nominees accepted on to the program.

Selection Criteria
Nominees for TSTL are expected to be high performing apprentices and trainees who have already demonstrated leadership capability. They must be over 18 years of age and in year 3 or 4 of their apprenticeship or at the end of a traineeship. School-based apprentices or trainees are not eligible

NSW GTOs have until 28 May to submit nominations for the program. Only GTA NSW members are able to nominate their NSW apprentices and trainees.

All entries should be sent to: naomid@nswgrouptraining.com.au
http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/todays-skills-tomorrows-leaders-2012-nominations-now-open http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/todays-skills-tomorrows-leaders-2012-nominations-now-open 30th Apr 12 GTA NSW e-news April 2012
Click here to read the latest edition of the bi-monthly GTA NSW e-newsletter.
http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/gta-nsw-e-news-april-2012 http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/gta-nsw-e-news-april-2012 23rd Mar 12 Register now
Join industry leaders, government and researchers at this one day event as we address key issues and showcase best practice in employment and mentoring of apprentices and trainees.

For more information and to register, click here.
http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/register-now http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/register-now 19th Mar 12 2012 NSW Group Training Awards
Nomination forms for the 2012 NSW Group Training Awards are now open.

There are separate forms for the GTA NSW Apprentice and Trainee of the Year Awards (including for Awards for Indigenous, Disability and School-Based) and Host Employer of the Year Awards which are available below.

Entries close at 5pm on Wednesday, 6th June 2012 – please ensure all materials are delivered to our office by this date (including a passport style photo of the nominee of approximately 1MB which should be sent by email). A list of finalists are expected to be announced at the beginning of July.

This year’s Awards event will be held on Friday, 26th October 2012 at the Shangri-la Hotel in Sydney.

All GTA NSW members are encouraged to nominate their best trainees, apprentices and host employers to celebrate their achievements.
http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/2012-nsw-group-training-awards http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/2012-nsw-group-training-awards 8th Feb 12 2011 NSW Group Training Awards Sponsors
Click here to view our 2011 NSW Group Training Awards Sponsors.
http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/2011-nsw-group-training-awards-sponsors http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/2011-nsw-group-training-awards-sponsors 7th Jul 11 Subscribe to E-newsletter
Register here to recieve the bi-monthly GTA NSW e-newsletter.
http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/subscribe-to-e-newsletter http://www.nswgrouptraining.com.au/associationnews/subscribe-to-e-newsletter 14th Feb 11 Skills for NSW: High Quality Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Skills for NSW: High Quality Apprenticeships and Traineeships

As the representative body for the largest employer group of traditional trade apprentices, the Group Training Association of NSW is a key stakeholder in the apprenticeship and traineeship market.

Following is an excerpt from the policy statement prepared by the Group Training Association of New South Wales for the 2011 State Election.

To support a quality, industry-led vocational education and training system the Group Training Association of NSW seeks ongoing support and funding from the NSW Government to:

1.
